The Pacific Southwest Free-mo group is dedicated to prototypical modeling, from both an appearance and an operational point of view. We recognize that, like the prototype, reliable operations for everyone are possible only if the physical plant, in our case participating modules, conform to standards.
While we had our origins within the Southern California Free-mo group, Pacific Southwest Free-mo members are committed to prototype modeling on quality-constructed modules that conform to Free-mo standards, and, most importantly, to ACTUALLY OPERATING trains.
Given the inherent flexibility of Free-mo's standards, Free-mo provides the opportunity for prototype-based modeling of scenes in a modular format. Free-mo modelers are unconstrained by the classic rectangular module shape that is the defining characteristic of so many modular layouts. The ability to design and build modules with unique shapes resulting in more accurate renderings of prototype scenes gives Free-mo modelers the freedom to create what is essentially a realistic operating diorama.
And this is the Pacific Southwest Free-mo group's objective - prototypical operations on realistic, prototype-based railroad scenes built to Free-mo standards. What we desperately want to avoid is the "circus module syndrome" and the scale-miles of out-of-service track that comes when modules do not conform to the Free-mo standards. Without regard to era or railroad, what we are looking for are quality built modules that are realistic presentations of real railroading in miniature on modules which conform to Free-mo standards.
If you are prototype modeler in Arizona, California or Nevada, are interested in Free-mo, and like to run-trains, please e-mail us about how you can get involved.
